David Coit and Greg Peters organize North Atlantic Capital as a regional risk-capital firm for Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. Fund I is capitalized at $17.3 million.
1986–2002
A regional venture pioneer
Across successive SBIC and venture funds, the firm becomes one of northern New England's most active early-stage investors, backing companies that would grow into public-market leaders.
2003
National technology strategy
North Atlantic broadens beyond its regional roots to a national strategy, backing high-growth technology companies across the United States.
2021
A Stifel Company
After a 35-year independent run, Stifel Financial acquires North Atlantic's future venture business. The firm becomes “North Atlantic Capital — A Stifel Company,” pairing decades of investing judgment with Stifel's balance sheet and reach.
2024
Lifetime Achievement
The Small Business Investor Alliance honors co-founder David Coit with its Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing decades of leadership in small-business investing.
2025
$10M into Sintavia
The Stifel North Atlantic AM-Forward Fund invests $10 million in Sintavia, a leader in additive manufacturing for aerospace and defense — patient capital for America's advanced-manufacturing supply chain.
